Actinomycin is a group of polypeptide antibiotics derived from soil bacteria known as Streptomyces. Actinomycin D is one of the major antibiotics in this group. It is most commonly used to inhibit the transcription of DNA by preventing the elongation step performed by RNA polymerase. |
