Carbenicillin is a broad-spectrum, β-lactam antibiotic commonly used in molecular biology to select for carbenicillin-resistant bacterial strains, particularly those carrying plasmids with the β-lactamase (bla) gene. It is often preferred over ampicillin due to its greater stability and reduced satellite colony formation on agar plates. |
