Spectinomycin Dihydrochloride is an aminocyclitol antibiotic used primarily for the selection of spectinomycin-resistant bacterial strains, typically those carrying the aadA (aminoglycoside adenylyltransferase) resistance gene. It functions by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting protein synthesis. Spectinomycin is often used as an alternative to streptomycin in molecular cloning and plant transformation. |
